In this episode, we explore how the pressure to achieve and the fear of letting others down can create pitfalls that are easy to stumble into. What begins as coping can turn into a habit that feels impossible to break.
This conversation shares the reality of living with addiction and the long process of recovery. The question becomes how to begin again when the old ways of holding it all together no longer work.
Dr. Brett Cordes

Dr. Brett Cordes was the typical overachieving, people-pleasing medical student, surgical resident, and young doctor, who successfully built a thriving clinical practice within the Texas medical center. His career, as well as his personal and professional reputation, came crashing down as his hidden secret of opiate addiction was discovered and made public.
Dr. Cordes’ story continues through treatment and recovery, as well as the long and tortuous road toward regaining his medical license, and, ultimately, working again. While tremendously grateful and humbled for this opportunity, he had to admit that his passion for clinical medicine had waned.
Dr. Cordes has since discovered physician coaching, and is inspired to help fellow doctors navigate the epidemic problem of physician burnout, as well as substance abuse.
