Every part of our bodies can repair by replacing its old cells, except the brain. The neurons we are born with have to last a lifetime and it is easy to believe this means the brain simply has to decline with age. What the brain is actually capable of is far more fascinating, and most of it is ours to shape.
We explore where modern medicine meets ancient shamanic traditions, and how the body holds a capacity for renewal we are only just beginning to understand and study. It turns out we might hold the power to do something extraordinary. To grow ourselves a new brain.
Dr. Alberto Villoldo

Medical anthropologist Alberto Villoldo Ph.D. has studied the shamanic healing practices of the Amazon and Andes for over 25 years. He is the founder of the Four Winds Society, an organization dedicated to the bridging of ancient shamanic traditions with modern medicine and psychology. The Four Winds Society Light Body School is internationally recognized as the Gold Standard in shamanic education, preparing wise and ethical energy medicine practitioners.
In his mid-20s, Dr. Villoldo was the youngest clinical professor at San Francisco State University, where he founded and directed the Biological Self-Regulation Lab to investigate how psychosomatic medicine changes the chemistry of the brain. He soon realized that the microscope was the wrong instrument to answer the questions he was asking. Other scientists were already studying the hardware, and Dr. Villoldo wanted to learn to reprogram the system for extraordinary health. He is the author of more than 20 international bestsellers in the field of energy medicine, and a Fellow of the Explorer’s Club.
